Happy Recycling!

We have been "light" recyclers for a long time - you know, we save cans, try to reduce, reuse etc, but its been pretty tough to do more than that since all the kids came along.  We've been really trying to do more because we'd like to leave the world a better place for our kids and grandkids if we can.  So we've been recycling everything possible this year - even though we don't have any kind of local program where they pick up recyclables, we've been saving paper, plastic, cans, glass, and cardboard, and even made our own compost bin from plastic pallets.  The kids have been really pitching in too - in fact they get downright upset if I throw ANYTHING away now, they want to help me take whatever it is to "wecycle, wecycle".  They've even got their grandparents into recycling now

Anyway, I just found a pretty cool web site called IdealBite.com - you can sign up for a free daily email with tips for living a "greener" lifestyle.  They're really fun, not preachy at all, and best of all they're not trying to sell you anything.  The tips range from interesting (showering for only 5 minutes will save 1,000 gallons of water a month), to practical (switching to air dry on your dishwasher can save you $25/year on electricity), to hilarious (save water - shower with a buddy).  Just what I need, all five kids in the shower with me, as it is that's the only privacy I get!!

You've hit the nail on the head about the little ones getting the grandparents to recycle. They all know where "papaw's wecycle box" is and know which one contains various recycle items. Jacob, the big brother, has named himself the "recycle man", and goes around looking for things to put in the recycle boxes. Great job in teaching them at a young age to be responsible.
