Worst Day of the Year So Far

A couple months ago we saw spots on our identical boys' back teeth.  Really freaked us out since they're only 2 1/2 so we made appointments to take all five kids to the pediatric dentist.  Had to make two appointments a week apart in order to get everybody in - the boys first since they had the issue and the girls and their older brother the next week.  They were all so excited to go to the dentist (the first time) although the girls were much braver during the exam and cleaning.  The boys pretty much all screamed through the procedure   Well the doc said both of the boys had cavities, Brandon had one and Zachary actually had three and they would need to have them filled right away.  Yesterday we took them back for the fillings and the experience ranks right up there near the top of the list of the worst things I've ever gone through!  The dentist had explained to us previously that the boys would be strapped into a "cocoon" so they couldn't move their arms and legs and she said that we could either be in the room or not, well we weren't about to let our boys go through that alone so I went in with one and my husband went in with the other.  We figured it would be bad given their last trip, but this was terrible - I had to help hold Brandon down for what seemed like forever while he begged me to "give me my hands" or to let him hold the book I was trying unsuccessfully to read to him.  He cried, I cried, he actually was able to work his way out of the straightjacket not once but three times and having to put him back in it was awful.  The dentist said that in all her years of practice she'd had fewer than ten kids able to get out of it.  UGH!!!!!

We thought the boys deserved a treat after that fiaso was over so we took them to Sam's Club to pick up supplies then went to T.G.I.Friday's for their first trip to a sit down restaurant.  This was a rare opportunity since we're never out without ALL the kids.  Apparently we're just gluttons for punishment because we spent more time wrestling knives, salt shakers and mustard dipping sauces away from them than we did eating our entrees.  Oh well, at least the boys enjoyed themselves, and seemed to have forgotten all about the trauma by the time they were playing horsey after brushing their teeth for bed.

    Sis,
We had to take Mark to the dentist a few weeks ago to get 3 cavities on the right side filled. He's got another appointment to fill some cavities on the left side. I think that I like our dentist's style better... He talked to Mark almost like an adult, let him sit like an adult, and I just held his hand. The type of filling they used only took less than 1 minute per filling and Mark was a trooper through it all!
